IN FARAWAY LANDS

Breathe in the Nature of your BEing on the Land on which you are…

Let me travel to you…

Be guided to reconnect… to the land, to yourself, and to the community your’e with, on the land on which you are…

We are always surrounded by nature. Yet in the busyness of our waking lives, we can easily move through our day with little or no connection to the living world that sustains us. We can miss the simple pleasures that support us to feel grounded and grateful.

Imagine feeling a greater sense of connection to the land on which you live and love. Or deepening the sense of connectedness between the like-hearted folk you work or play with, in a place you all value. Perhaps you are home schooling your children and desire for them to experience a greater sense of interconnectedness and respect for the land on which they learn?

If you would like to be guided back into right relationship with Mother Earth, and engage in life-affirming practices that support you to embody ancient wisdom teachings that live on in our own ancestral lineage, then…

“I met Merryl as a participant in a ‘Breathe in Nature’ workshop she facilitated through my local Yoga Studio, and approached her to see if she might design and deliver an appropriate PD session for our Kindy staff team of 8. Merryl made herself available to listen to my intentions; to begin the year on a positive note, to support my team to re-engage with the beauty in their place of work, and to feel reconnected to each other. I flagged the possibility that some of the team may be reticent to participate in group activities, and Merryl reassured me that she would make the session safe and comfortable for all.  Merryl arrived half an hour before the session began to familiarise herself with our grounds, and set up a joyous space outside for our 90 minute session together.

Merryl’s authenticity supported all of us to feel reverence for the land on which we worked and encouraged the enthusiasm and passion that was already alive within us. We took inspiration from her experience of Acknowledging Country in culturally appropriate ways with young people as a non-Indigenous person of this land.

The workshop was wonderfully received by all the team, and some of the practices were immediately incorporated into the weekly schedule with students.  Everyone truly enjoyed it and I think it was the perfect way to begin the year!”

“To know me is to breathe with me, to breathe with me is to listen deeply, to listen deeply is to connect”

- Miriam Rose Ungunmerr Baumann

"Whilst teaching the Mindfulness component of a Yoga Teacher Training Course, Merryl asked me if she could share her experience of being on country with Miriam Rose Ungunmerr Baumann and the practice of Dadirri to highlight the ‘mindfulness' traditions of this land.

She spoke passionately to the Teacher Trainees about incorporating authentic Acknowledgements of Country into their classes and practising yoga in a way that truly recognises the land on which they lay down their mat. We were all so moved by the session that I invited Merryl to deliver a two hour ‘Breathe in Nature’ workshop to all SoHo Yogis which we ran in a local park a few months later.

16 participants experienced a luxurious slowed down time in nature, relaxing into an emotive practice with yoga, meditation, self-inquiry and reflection. The workshop reaffirmed participants’ sense of self and reignited their oneness with nature, sparking curiosity and a thirst for more ongoing practice like this. I am keen for Merryl to offer further workshops of this nature at Soho Yoga"

What you can Expect

On enquiring, we’ll discuss your intentions and the practicalities of the workshop including the location, space/s available, number of participants, and any other relevant details. I will determine a fee for the workshop and upon accepting that, we will confirm more details as necessary. On the day of the workshop you can expect me to arrive a little earlier than the times lot if appropriate so that I can introduce myself to the land and establish a welcoming space to meet with participants. Following the session, I will follow up with workshop participants via email and make myself available for any questions or feedback as they arise. I am available for repeat sessions to build on what we’ve already done if there’s a desire to do that.

“As a Teaching Elder on a five day community gathering, I was so happy to hear that Merryl was on the teaching team too! She’d been asked to deliver a workshop to the whole group of 20 just like the year before, except this time I could join in too!

I felt hopeful listening to her stories about working with young people in nature and her time on Country with Miriam Rose and the practice of Dadirri. I loved seeing everyone getting down close to Mother Earth and disappearing amongst the trees; ’Connecting to Country’ real way.

Merryl’s passion for nature and all her years of Teaching really encouraged the group into deep reverence for the ancient wisdom, and sharing stillness with the life around us felt like we were all coming home to ourselves. When we gathered together at the end of the session to reflect, our level of awareness had expanded and we felt more attuned to the beauty of the land we were gathering on. This feeling stuck with us for the rest of the event, and the group got really curious about deep listening in their own ancestral lineages. Merryl’s miwi is on fire with her purpose; enlightening others, she’s doing exactly what she’s meant to be doing!”
